Denis is a war correspondent and has been out of touch with reality since the end of war. Spending most of his time drinking and cursing the new generations of journalist, running after scandals to make the highest score.

But the coming of the renegades, rekindle the flame of passion for real news. The renegades attacks, make his superiors send him back again in the middle of the war, where his heart belong. But this time, he takes along Hibiki (who he despise for his lack of profesionlism. He gets the opportunity to show hibiki the what's real news.

General Feff of the renegade army. He is one of the most competent warrior among the renegades and has the task to help conquering the planet Earth. Among their powerful weapons, are the emulators. Each battleship has one. The are women who use their voice to disoriente their enemy.

During this battle the general, will learn that there are things more important than war. For before coming to Earth, he had only war as companion. But here on Earth, he will meet love and know what it is to love?

Silvie Gena, the ace pilot of the U.N. Spacey and the proteger of commander Xegrand. She is afraid about the security of the planet and think that the military has become too soft.And the coming of the renegades, confirmed everything she feared, that the military may lose against this new enemy.

Being the youngest and a very beautiful pilot, has not brought her much time for her personal life.But the presence of Ishtar and Hibiki, will show her that there is more to life than fightings and loneliness.

Hibiki Kanzaki, a hotshot reporter, always on the prowl for the latest and juiciest scandals. He has no respect for anything or anybody. All that the wants is to be the best reporter. But his most intimate dream was to be a war correspondent and the coming of the renegade Zentraedi provded hime with the occasion and opportunity.

But he was to found out that war is not a game. That people can die and lose much more than their lifes also. But in the middle of the war he will find Ishtar, an enemy emulator.

While teaching her about Earth he will learn a lot himself. The innocent eyes of Ishtar will show him that there are not just scandals that are worth running after in life. Love is much worth is, than a mere scandal, and more important as if may save everybody.

Ishtar is an emulator, tought to lead the renegade army to victory with her voice. During a fight with the U.N. Spacey force, the ship in which she was got damaged and she was saved by Hibiki Kanzaki, a reporter. Down on Earth, she was disoriented, afraid and alone. But Hibiki tought her to trust and appreciate the what life has to offer. Here she learned that people laugh, cry and share their feelings without fear. People here don't seek war, but peace.

When she saw the Macross Fortress, she was mesmerised. She felt attracted to it, as if the fortress was calling her. And she knew that the fortress was the key to the peace. With the help of Hibiki and Silvie, she will try to use Macross help in making her people see how useless war is.

Commander Next is one among the best pilot of the U.N. Spacey fleet. He is also a very good valkyrie fighter. And as Silvie, he too doubts of the ability of the military to defends our planet. The coming of the renegade confirmed his doubts and he went into battle against these Zentraedi.

In this fight, he used the new Metal Cyrene prototype in combat. He fought for the people he loved and for Gena. He will be placed infront of his fears and will have to surpassed them in order to win this battle for love.

Commander Xegrand, he is the leading chief of the Earth defence force. He is very concerned with the actual status of the army. These decades of peace has eroded the army's survival instinct.

Now the defence force is faced against a ruthless enemy. This enemy is destroying everything on it's passage and he don't know if the Earth heroes will be upto to this war. As the price for victory might be too high.

After Eighty years, the decendants of the Zentraedi/Meltrandi conflict have established a new society with the people of Earth. When alien invaders identified as renegade Zentraedi threaten this uneasy alliance, the superdimentional Fortress Macrosss must resurrect itself after generations of inactivity to fight against the enemy forces.

Hibiki Kanzaki, an investigative reporter for Scramble News Network (SNN), is caught up in the battle when he allies himself with Ishtar, a Zentraedi princess. Enlisting the help of Valkyrie pilot Silvie Gena, Hibiki rushes to save Ishtar from a "reprogramming" by hostile Zentraedi. Silvie and Hibiki must also broadcast the truth about Zentraedi invasion and convice the powerful military complex U.N. Spacey to reactivate the Macross fortress and defend Earth one more time.
